Can't go wrong with a Leatherman

  1. 2 handed operation. Expect to only have one hand usable, and probably not your dominant one, when things go awry. A quick way to see if your multi tool is up to the task: tape your dominant thumb down and the fingers together then try to open it. Do the same with your fire starter & ammo reloads. It’s an eye opener.

  3. I prefer Gerbers. I have 4 Leatherman, 1 Sharade, and 2 Gerbers. All of them military issue. Every time I got sent to the sandbox I was issued a multi-tool, knife, and new pair of boots. My daily carry is a Gerber needle nose multi-tool and a Benchmade auto knife. Both were mil issue.

  4. A couple of added components would increase it's usefulness. A sewing bobbin of thin gauge wire. A strong sewing needle with a plastic card w/sewing thread wrapping for clothing repairs.
