And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I never heard of it happening to anyone in the USA. I heard lots of people talking about how it COULD happen, but it never actually did.
Because we were sensible then. We didn't park a take-out cup of blazing coffee between our thighs, and we didn't have warning labels plastered all over everything, and we didn't have cars with electronic junk to do all our thinking for us.
We were sensible and we took reasonable precautions... and we survived plenty well enough to produce the next generation. Probably too well.
