And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
That looks more like a hazard tree about to be dopped by a Forest Service C-faller after a big wildfire has passed though. Dangerous work. Trees like that can burn for weeks and sometimes months after the fire is contained, if not taken care of. That hollow spot is what's known in the woods as a 'Cat's Face'.

Lightning struck trees are the best - you don't have to wait for the wood to dry.
