  1. How many cycles before that gear is yanked and overhauled?

    1. Industry standard is around 10,000 landings or 6 years. Each manufacturer has their own limits though.

  2. The landing gear of the B-52 has four two-wheel bogies. The four twin landing gear “trucks” can be turned to "crab" the aircraft in a crosswind landing. The B-52's engines have no thrust reversers, so a very long runway, and a drag chute, is needed to help stop the aircraft on landing.

  3. Probably taken after take-off or before landing with no crosswinds.

  4. I wonder if they will add thrust reversers to the new nacelles for the new Rolls-Royce engines?

  5. Those trucks are steerable, the pilot can land with a cross wind and maintain control. Wonder if it's from Minot AFB?

  6. Have airliner designers considered doing the steering main gear? Too bulky/heavy/expensive?

  7. You know what I'd like to know? If the A-10 is obsolete and useless, how come the B-52 - in service for 68 years - continues to be essential? Pretty fishy, I'd say.
