  1. Nice engine, I’ve worked on many.

  2. Yeah, nice. But they're trying to tear themselves apart with each combustion; guys like you keep them as safe as they can be.

  3. Not a fan. If you want that much power and performance, go turbine. Dan is correct they tend to self destruct at very bad times. Don't work on them, only flew them (and suffered from folk like p2 writing in the A/C logbook " X reported, tested results normal op. Action- remove pilot, replace same". Awful people. Necessary, but awful.

    1. Yeah, but recip engines are $60-75K for 2000 hours and (up to) 350 HP or so.
Kinda hard to find a turbine that small, and a PT-6 or a Garrett are over $350K for 35oo hours.
      If I could buy a small turbine, I would. But since I can't, TSIO520.

  4. I was working on a Continental in a Bonanza one time that would not stop leaking oil. Took the rocker box covers off and poured solvent in them and one of them was leaking right through a flaw in the casting. I think the Lycoming covers were stamped sheet metal but the Continentals were castings. That was 40 years ago and I still have that cover on my desk a junk catcher. Been a while.
