And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Yeah, like that model could get up enough speed, towing that field gun, to make that jump.
1962, I was assigned one without the governor to go drive a field exercise umpire (Army Major) up near Frankfurt. On the Autobahn going back to Augsburg a German in a '57 Ford passes me. He's looking at me, back at his speedometer, then back at me with this look of amazement. I'm pedal to the metal, no idea how fast because the speedometer is pegged.
Actually they did it all the time. Happened in 5-ton prime movers too.
Usually not from jumping up, but far more from the roadway suddenly bottoming out from under you on a previously level stretch.
You have any idea how long it takes to dig out a 5-ton truck and gun by hand with e-tools, when your non-NVG wearing driver finds a 6' deep 20-yard long tank trap in the road at 2 AM?

ReplyDeleteThey just hit a mine…
ReplyDeleteThere's actual movies of the jeep doing that with the 37mm AT gun. Could do it with the 75mm mountain howitzer too. Or a trailer.
ReplyDeleteJust because it's low in horse power doesn't mean it doesn't have the torque. Try pulling an anti-tank gun with a Lambo...
Agreed!
DeleteWish I still had my CJ2A
ReplyDeleteA Mahindra Roxor could be fun to own if you have access to rurals.
ReplyDeleteNot only can it make that jump, it's doing it without a front tire!
ReplyDeleteI was going to say the same thing Vince. Good eye.

Here's a video of one jumping with a trailer, although not nearly as gracefully as the illustration. It's at about 1:06
