Everyone should have at least one

  1. You need 2, for when the first one gets stuck.

    1. Or three. I've had an axe, a splitting maul, and two wedges stuck in a gnarly old bolt of green oak. Got ticked enough to get the 12lb. sledge and beat the wedges on through until it finally came apart.

    2. Until a few years ago we had old dead elm still standing after the Dutch elm disease. Whenever one came down I didn't look forward to the splitting. I would start with a log grenade, which would stick, then wedges. Nice burning wood though so the effort was with it.

  2. No sale, if you need this tool you've selected the wrong wood to burn or you're just plain doing it wrong.

  3. Long ago in Lovely New Mexico, my friends and I had so many wedges and axe heads stuck in an old elm stump we went to the local explosives dealer and bought three skinny sticks of dynamite. (Long before 9-11) A couple of hours later all of our equipment had been recovered.
