A nicely done 1911 is a beautiful thing

  1. Nice and without a lot of frills

  2. A little trigger work and decent sights and you are good to go to the National Matches. Past that, a National Match barrel and a tightened slide might help. Great firearm. I was raised with it and still love it.

  3. My EDC is a COLT COMMANDER 80/converted to a 70 & a few more tweaks by WILSON! I have a COLT GOV'T same-same. It will be a EDC also WHEN I get the right holster. All this since TEXAS became a CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY STATE.

  4. I'm thinking that replacing those grips would be a good first step.

  5. Original checkered grips are the best.

  7. In '64 I was weaned on a Mauser HSc that set me back $30 or so. Legal no question cash purchase. A year later Uncle taught me care & feeding of a 1911. Still content with a standard mil-issue 1911. Occasionally a Smith Model 27 catches my eye but I'll continue to dance with who brung me. Vet much regret losing the HSc in one move or the other.

  8. As long as that backstrap is checkered, those grips are fine with a proper hold. And that bore looks a bit bigger than a standard 45. 50?

  9. 8/10. Needs work.

The hammer, trigger, and barrel bushing should all be the same midnight black.
