  2. A portrait by Hans Holbein Jr. He managed to make a ton of European despots, and their family and friends, look sufficiently butch to intimidate their subjects. Some of these goons pretty much fit that image anyway.

    1. Remarkably lifelike painting. I look at paintings like this and compare them to modern art, and it's hard not to wonder where things went so wrong.

      Is there some meaning or symbolism of the left hand wearing a glove but not the right hand?
