The inside of a fire hydrant

  1. My Uncle worked for Red Bird Brass in Ohio.He told me that many jurisdictions couldn't use another's hydrants ,because there were no set standards when many fire depts. started.You'd have to have an adapter to go from city to county.

  2. Dry Barrel. Used in places with colder temperatures so the portion that is above ground won't freeze and split.

    1. They use them down in Port Aransas, TX, too.

    2. Maybe, but after you use it once it's going be partially full of water. All the hose connections are near the top. Unless there's a plug on the backside to drain it after you close it again.

    3. There is a drain in the bottom that is actuated when it is shut off. It drains below grade level.
