Last Fri I cut the stump off a spring lettuce. I jammed 4 toothpicks in on 4 sides and set it on the edge of a small container of water with the bottom of the stump in the water, then set it on the sunny windowsill. Today, 6 days later, there is 4" of new growth jutting out of the top of it. Tomorrow it will get a scissor haircut that will end up in my supper salad. For free!
