Living the Life

  1. Can't tell if the number on the island is 65 or 66. if it's 65, USS Enterprise, I worked the flight deck for V-4 division from Dec '75 until Nov '78. It had a much different looking island then, a huge block on top of a smaller block.

    1. 65
Saved it to HD and opened it in ThumbsPlus and stopped it at the right place and zoomed in.

  2. 65. Can tell by boxy island designed shared with Long Beach. Plus 66 is conventional (non nuke) and has a stack

    1. It's a little fast for me to see but it looks like the dome on top of the box has been cut off. I left the ship in Nov '78 and I believe in Dec '78 it left Alameda for the Bremerton shipyards for a 3-year dry dock period. I also believe that they cut it down from 8 reactors to 2.

  3. In my younger days I worked with a couple of vets who had balls that clanked when they walked....one was an F84 Thunderjet pilot in Korea and the other flew a B25 Mitchell during WWII. They have both since gone to their rewards but the stories they could tell were awesome.

  4. A Life On and Above the Ocean Wave
A home on the rolling deep
    Where the scattered waters rave
And the winds reveal their keep
