  1. If I hadn't seen this plane before I'd swear it was 'shopped.

  2. There was a Gee Bee at the local airport back in the late 70's. The Guy that owned it rarely flew it as he said it was a deathtrap unless it was flying at full power. His regular ride was a bi-plane with an engine that was twice the HP of the original design. 10-4.

  5. Delmar Benjamin felt a deep connection with Jimmy Dolittle. Unfortunately, Delmar was unable to show his accomplishments to the General. Delmar has a unique story of his own.

    2. no details but I recall Jimmy Dolittle declining to fly Gee Bee after setting one speed record or the other. He declared the ship to be inherently unsafe.

  6. Must be a bitch when you have to flare during landing. Like, where did the runway, let alone the sky, go? ;>}

  7. I think that GeeBee has been retired and is now at Kermit Week's Fantasy Of Flight in FLA.

  8. High wing loading made it a killer. This effects stall speeds and maneuverability. Keep it straight and fast, no problem. Anything other than basic turns and you're in trouble.

  9. Sitting that far behind the COG every change of direction must feel really weird.

  10. Watched the Gee Bee fly many years ago, it was at the Reno Air Races I think. Benjamin even flew it inverted close the runway, major league scary!
