And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I was in turkey, ‘79. We were setting up a dog and pony. I heard some navy officers bitching about the cobra pilot was late. No sooner was the words out of their mouths, than this AH-1 swoops down so fast, and low that the zeros hit the deck. The bird went into a vertical climb, stalled, then slid back under a olive tree. The pilot hopped out, blades still spinning. “You ordered a cobra?” He asked of the two officers, still on their bellies. Then sauntered off. “F-ckin Marine pilots!” The two officers muttered.
My favorite were the older natural pilots, they were good and the enjoyed it... from time to time I wondered what they were going to do after they retired and didn't have a helicopter to go play with.

ReplyDeleteI've worked with a few chopper pilots in my time. Plenty of show-offs but not many older pilots. I flew with the older and boring ones.
