And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Debbie Reynolds with a 23-month-old Carrie Fisher, 1958.
That is how we rode in the car! I still remember my grandmother telling us: "Stand up right here beside me so I can throw my arm across you to hold you in case there is a wreck." When we were too tall to stand on the seat, we rode in the back seat and played on the seat or in the floor boards or climbed over the seats. No seat belts for anyone then.
We got our first seat belt in a 1963 Oldsmobile, my Dad picked it up at the factory and we took it back to the west coast so it could be shipped to Hawaii.
My uncle dated Debbie Reynolds (her real name was Frances Reynolds and everyone knew her as "Franny") at Burbank High. They always remained close friends. She was truly a class act.

DeleteI forgot how pretty Debbie Reynolds was.
ReplyDeleteback before too much plastic surgery ruined some otherwise nice looking women!
DeleteWTF: The idiot Eddie Fisher traded beautiful Debbie for Liz T.??????
ReplyDeleteThey were both extremely fine in the 50's. I favor blondes so Debbie would have been my focus, but I was only 3 yo in 58. sigh
DeleteI was eight, so I had a shot... maybe?
