And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I don't think anyone can do, "That Look" like Lauren could. Also, her voice was very much a part of the whole deal. I loved her charter in "The Shootist" with John Wayne and Ron Howard. A great all star cast and great movie too.
I always thought Lauren Bacall was too gorgeous to exist in the 1940's. I thought that she always looked like a very 'modern' woman (whatever the hell that is). Don't know why. Sometimes I wish I'd come up then and missed out on all the modern stuff (like WAP and Wrecking Ball, resurgence of Communism, etc.). Too bad the only way people can experience the old USA is through old movies and, perhaps, Shorpy.com.
All you have to do is whistle. You know how to whistle, don't you?
ReplyDeleteJust put your lips together and...blow.
ReplyDeleteThat look... like the movie title: Maleficent!
ReplyDeleteMy wife told me once that she would understand if I left her for Miss Bacall (who was in her eighties at the time.)
ReplyDeleteOh God she was a beauty.
ReplyDeleteI need to get my eyes checked;,that looks like Ingrid Bergman to me.
ReplyDeleteThey had terrific electricity in To Have and Have Not, but I thought they were better in Key Largo.
ReplyDeleteI forgot what movie it was, but that little shimmy she did at the end walking up to Bogie was worth sitting through the whole damn movie to see....

ReplyDeleteIf the look has it all, the voice can kill it.
ReplyDeleteIf the look is lacking, the voice makes up for it.
They both had the voice.
