And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Hopefully it didn't remove any feet/legs on it's journey outward. Most likely not running a blowproof bellhousing, although even those weren't a 100% safe. I've seen a photo of Don Garlits slingshot dragster taken when the clutch/flywheel came off while leaving the line. you can see the blowproof bellhousing flying above the chassis. He had a foot cut off at the ankle, IIRC. Cut the dragster in half. He came back from that to build the first successful rear-engine top fuel car. Revolutionized rail dragsters, and made the class much safer for drivers.
I'd like to see the pic that guy is taking of the floor/dash area inside. How on earth did that thing stay in one piece long enough to get where it is?
If the input shaft shears, the disc will offset, unbalancing the clutch assembly. Those mounting bolts fail, and away it goes! Lucky the flywheel didn't go with it. If it did, it took a different exit path.
Wow!
ReplyDeleteDon't know what was heard but that is one heck of a picture!

DeleteAppears he wasn't just out for a Sunday drive.
ReplyDeleteBuzz saw blade. Look out.
ReplyDeleteThe transmission, the pressure plate bolts, the bell housing all had to fail for it to get there.
