    1. M60 was a bad rip off of the German MG42. They should have left it alone and rechambered it like my buddy Bill did. He had 8mm, 30.06 and 308 barrels for his. Lots of other countries adopted it and called it the MG 3 (Pakistan?).

    2. Agreed. My MOS was 45B. Served my Army hitch in West Germany. Qualified for my Schützenschnur (in bronze) with the MG-3.

      Some excellent history here--

    4. MG3 is a wonderful weapon, heavy bolt is 1100 rpm, light is 1400. Quick barrel changes. The Norwegians rebarreled some in 30-06. Other countries had other calibers, such as 5.56.

  7. Our US Marine tanks in Vietnam had the M1919 .30 cal. air cooled machine guns coaxially mounted in the turret. It was far more reliable and accurate than the M-60 that the grunts carried.

  10. Relatively fixed position belt fed weapons as well as small caliber (60mm or so) mortars are ideal for smaller stature fighters like the tween and early teen years members of your group.
    Just sayin'.

  11. Lots of people have negative comments about the M60. But ya know what? I had a lot fun with the Pig. My first job in the Army was as assistant gunner. But had other duties over the next 20 years that let me do a good deal of shooting with it. Always fun.
