"Improvements"

  1. Comparing my new MacBook Pro with my 15 year old MBP, a lot of easy connectivity has been lost along with a CD/DVD drive. So now I have to keep a bundle of dongles (is there a collective noun for dongles?) around to use older devices which still work just fine. Steve_in_Ottawa

  2. Yeah, losing the CD / DVD drawer really rankles my jimmies. I know Youtube and many other on-line exist but what if you aren't wi-fi connected and just want some PRIVATE entertainment ?

  4. I use an external CD/DVD player to deal with that media, it plugs into one of the two (and only two) USB slots. There is an HDMI slot also..

  8. Well, it is Apple so they have a history of removing something and charging more for it.

  9. Writing this on the 2 USB C port MacBook at the top of the pile.

Removing all those ports is part of the price of a computer half the thickness & weight of what they replace.

There's plenty of inexpensive hubs out there for desktop use that will run every external gadget and a couple monotors to boot.

I'm trying to figure out how Mac's engineers made everything, including charging, run thru one USB C port.

  10. Sometime in the future a big court case or a whistle blower will reveal that everything in the cloud is available to NSA. AND that everything you type or copy into your computer is uploaded to the cloud even if you opt out.

  11. Apple isn't the only one to do the above. HP does it too, unfortunately.
