And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
No YOU get in and drive. The '40 Ford clutch pedal is a tie to the earlier days of drag racing, and the chromed differential cover, custom cast steering and gas pedal mark a dedicated shop made all the pieces come together.
I drove one of those but with a smaller motor and bigger slicks. If it wasn't pointed in the right direction when I hit the throttle, I had to lift because the front end was so light that there was no chance of steering it. The headers ended just in front of the slicks and I didn't need a tach to tell when to shift. More fun and a bigger thrill than the rear engine dragsters I had later.
I keep hoping to find one of these in a barn someday. Stick any stone stock V8 in it, it will be quicker than anything I ever drove before and not suck my wallet dry.
A variation on Scotty Fenn's Chassis Research TE-440 (Top Eliminator in 440 yards) with some sort of coupe body mounted. Probably ran as a Competition Coupe/Sedan. Way back!!

Where's the backseat?
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty much as far back as you can get. Nothing behind but a parachute.
