And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Having lived in Minnesota for ten years, and being exposed to all sorts of Swedes, Norwegians and Danes... I'd say that "Norwinskis" take the cake for less-than-mental-giants. But the norther climes take its toll on all mudders.
Yes, I too called it 'Huskavarna', or 'Husky', before Magnus corrected me. Now I can't break the 'Hoosk-var-na' pronunciation, mainly because it's fun to say!
Stihl does hold a slight edge amongst Pro Saw users, but Hoosk-var-na users are equally loyal to their choice of saws. It's almost like a 'Ford-Chevy' type of thing.
CW- If you can find that picture of you and your McCulloch please post it. It would be a classic. Wasn't it great to be young enough to throw a boat anchor like that around and still be able to laugh at the end of the day?
Love my Husqvarna more than my Stihl. I was told the pros choose one or the other based on whether authorized service is near by. Seems like Stihl is sold everywhere these days.
The Swedes have never been the "sharpest knives in the drawer."
ReplyDeleteWhat makes you think they don't know what they're doing?

DeleteI did a job for an immigrant from Sweden who told me the correct pronunciation is 'Hoosk-var-na'.
ReplyDeleteHow else would you pronounce it?
DeleteElmo, I believe it. But I can’t tell you how many times I have heard Husk A Varna! And Johnson Red.

DeleteWhy Stihl is more for the discerning, competent, thinking saw wielder.

DeleteToo bad McCulloch went bad. I got a picture somewhere of me in my youth "wielding" a McCulloch with a four foot long bar. Woo! Those were the days.
DeleteMy Granddad had a McCulloch back in the 1960s, and I wanted one so bad.
DeleteBut, wiser heads prevailed, and my six-year-old self never got one.

I'll see if I can find it. I'll have to digitize it. Those were good times.
DeleteThere are better ways of getting a woman out of a tree....safer ones too.
ReplyDeleteThe tree hugging , dirt munching druids have been with us longer than most are ready to admit.

ReplyDeleteI asked those more knowledgeable, which one to choose, and they said whichever was on sale...
DeleteMike in Canada
