  1. That's a beautiful photo! My parents moved to and bought the farm I grew up on in 1946. More mules in this area of Pa. than horses at that time. Neighboring farmer owned two named "Gin" and "Tops." My dad asked why he used them instead of horses. He said mules were smarter. If they knew something was too heavy for them to pull, they wouldn't continue to try, but horses would and wind up hurting themselves. No idea if there's any truth to that. Input anybody?
