And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Mikhail has been into the vodka again, looks like.
He is probably having a laugh because after more than 80 years they have not designed anything to replace his two weapon designs, the AK and the PK belt fed.
Hugo Schmeisser is the true engineer who designed the AK-47 while in Soviet captivity after WW2. He was released in 1952 and was murdered less than a year later when he started to talk to the US about his design. He referred to Kalashnikov as a drunken machinist who could keep a secret. That is why he was chosen. Do yourself a favor and watch the interview that was done with this drunken sod and Eugene Stoner. Eugene goes into depth into the making of his design. The Sod comes off looking like a fish out of water.
This is Mikhail Kalashnikov himself. Very much a badass in WWII. Developed the AK to be fast, reliable, hard hitting, and easy to make and maintain. Col. David Hackworth in his book "Steel My Soldiers Heats" tells of when some guys were bulldozing in Viet Nam and uncovered the body of an NVA officer and his AK that had been buried in a battle a year before. Hackworth called the guys together, took the AK, swished the guck off in a mud puddle and opened fire to show just how reliable the weapon is. Good lesson.
