And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I've got an old one. The neat thing about these is that you can buy replacement plastic parts for the whole thing, and replacement work surfaces too. Even in a full sized shop, they come in quite handy.
Like others above, I've had mine for a long time (decades!) and it's been a great tool. Most recently I used it for cutting 250' of 3/16" corten landscaping steel using a portable band saw. Made the job so much easier! I've used and abused it, and it just lasts. I'm probably going to just keep it rather than get the fancier new model, because the old one is likely to outlast me!
Don't let it get wet! The top is made of strips of scrap bamboo and cheap glue and will fall apart on a rainy day. Equally, the base will rust quickly. Also, if the plastic springs that hold the feet out ever break (they do easily), you can't get replacements. I've gone back to sawhorses and boards.

ReplyDeleteReally, good to know. I have 2 from over 20 yrs ago, and one 9f them is in bad shape. Will check it out, Ty!
DeleteYep, I have the one my Dad gave me nearly 40 years ago.
ReplyDeleteI had to machine new plastic for the clamps, but other than that it is still a great tool.
I've had mine for some years, when I need it, it works. But... mine doesn't fold 90° like that one does, that's not a bad idea!
ReplyDeleteWhy do they make these things so damn short? Not everyone is 5'3"!
ReplyDeleteI've had mine for years too, a great device! And I agree with MoFo!
ReplyDeleteI have my dad's. He put 1/8" plate steel on the work surface and used it as a welding table.

They STILL make these things? Still have and use my Dad's. Must be 50 years old now.
ReplyDeleteI still have and use mine that I bought 50? years ago. Handy thing to have. Me, being short, it's the perfect height.
