And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Gotta be one broke horse. Definitely not one of mine - I can barely bring myself to have both hands off the reins, certainly not with precious cargo on board!
Highly recommended: Sandhills Boy by Elmer Kelton details growing up on the ranch in West Texas in the 30's and ranch life in the 40's and 50's. Kelton is perhaps best known for The Time It Never Rained, about the big drought in the 50's; that one reads like a horror story, which in many ways, that time was.
