And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I never knew they made noise. I saw them from a destroyer, and what with nature’s wind, our relative wind, the sound of our rapid passage through the water, and the noise of machinery, I had no clue. Still, since they glide - those “wings” don’t beat - I have to respectfully ask if you’re pulling our legs.
me too, one landed in our boat, flopped about then out again, great experience, definitely an exotic species, we where fishing at the time, actually a beautiful looking fish, wonder how they taste.
ps, ones we witnessed had some color on the wings, bit of yellow/orange particularly on the trailing fringe, and they looked more green than the one pictured above.
On one of many 6 month cruises courtesy of Uncle Sam we had an Albatross? that perched at the highest point on the Navy ship for at least a month, Every now and then the bird would go into sort of a dive and skim across the water and catch a flying fish then head back to his perch. Needless to say said bird made a huge mess sitting up there.
They make a cool buzzing sound with the wings as they fly away from your boat.

DeleteFlying fish taste excellent, they're one of my favorite sea fish - very light meat, very tasty.
