And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
That's one nice trilby chapeau ole blue eyes is wearing. Unlike the "casual" sloppiness we see today, back in the 1950s and 1960s people knew how to dress. Especially the Hollywood fashion influencers. PS: Anon, if you have to ask you probably can't afford it.
As Ava Garner was reputed to say, 'Frankie was all of 120 lb, and 10 of it was dick'. Sinatra was extremely sensitive about this, and it supposedly embarrassed him so much that he had special underwear made to help keep things organized unobtrusively.
Did you see 'Rio Bravo', in which he played Dude, aka: Borracho (drunk)? I can't imagine anyone playing the part any better. "Just my rifle, my pony and me."
Then there was his glass eye trick in the bar to get money for drinks in 'The Sons of Katie Elder'. After he pulls his con he tells Strother Martin "Be a little crowded in there, wouldn't it?" Classic.
There is a little bar in a small town in eastern Washington that is Rat Pack themed and plays a LOT of their music. Photos of them and their friends and parties all over. Pretty nice.
Read a book on Sinatra by a friend of his, one story was about a young doctor that gave Frank a check up prior to a movie role. He asked him some questions including what was his alcohol consumption. Frank replied basically a bottle of Jack Daniel's every day. The doctor was shocked and said so. Sinatra was mildly surprised at his reaction.
Years later he was amused to see the doctors obituary.
looks like they're on a mission

DeleteSharp dressed men remind me of my dad.
ReplyDeleteThe older I get, the more I appreciate Dean Martin's many talents.
ReplyDeleteI could never understand why they kept sticking him in pictures, though. Acting wasn't one of them.

Speaking of "glass eyes" ... another member of the Rat Pack, Sammy Davis, Jr. had one.
DeleteAnd even with a glass eye, he could do this-

When cool was cool. Those two certainly had it!
ReplyDeleteWould you let your daughters hang out with the rat pack?
ReplyDeleteok i answer my own question. Sy Devore most likely made the suit.
ReplyDeleteand i probably could not afford it
You’d think Dean’s suit maker would have made a proper pocket for his iPhone instead of his front pant.
ReplyDeleteback when Hollywood had at least the semblance of class.

I liked watching The Dean Martin Show, the Golddiggers were hot! Good stuff for 60s network television.
ReplyDeleteThe guy next to Dean is carrying a bag full of money.
ReplyDeleteThat's Sammy. They made the black guy carry the luggage. ;)
DeleteDifferent times. I have a picture of my grandfather dressed like that. He's holding up a fish he'd just caught.
