Oroville Spillway January 31, 2024. Nice Spillway. Be a shame if something happened to it.

  1. That's great. About the only thing more ridiculous than the California Water Resources Board intentionally wasting water from reservoirs (not just Oroville) in order to create yet another "water crisis" to blame on climate change, is putting the whole thing to music.

    1. Lake Oroville levels are determined by the Department of Water Resources, not the California State Water Resources Control Board.

The main reason for this week's releases is that the lake was at a historic high level for this time of year because of last year's great precipitation and snowpack, and there are a series of wet storms moving into the state. DWR is currently managing the lake level for flood control.

    2. How many times have we heard they're releasing water "just in case" only to have no water the following summer.

  2. The reservoirs and dams envisioned in the 50s and 60s should have been completed. The population of California has doubled, but not a single drop of new water.

  5. The first time I went across the Oroville Dam was when I was 9 years old (1969). I saw what was called the "Emergency Spillway" and wondered what would happen when all that water went over the concrete and onto dirt. We found out, mud and erosion. Stupid design or incomplete work?
