And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

New Zealand looks like the place to go, although someday I need to make it to Tasmania.
Many years ago, my wife and I looked very serious about buying a chiropractic practice on the North Island and moving there. She has also been a horse woman for most of her life. The NZ rules are that you cannot import ANY animals into the country. That was a no brainer for her. We are here and not there.
Agre it's a nice place, but New Zealand politics have gone from bad to worse recently, .and are racing Australia for the bottom. Visit yes -- potentially live there -- no
Agreed. Mrs. azlib and I did a cruise around New Zealand a number of years ago and thought that the country and the people were lovely. However, the politics are horrible and their reaction to Covid was even worse.
I've got a theory about being an expat. You can pull up your roots and move to some location where live is easy and you can just coast through the rest of your life. But, and here's the big but. Once you're there, you're always going to be thought of as the outsider.....the Other. If and when that country and culture is stressed, it is going to be very easy for the locals to blame all their ills on people like you. It doesn't have to make sense, but they're pressured, they'll pull back to people who have a common history, and you won't be part of that.
You wouldn't like any of them- though I'd be hard pressed to pick which is the worst. Japan, racist and ugly beyond words. NZ, a police state in paradise. UK, the third world with 1984 as a best case, bad healthcare, stunning prejudice. Buy more ammo, and move to a deep red state- preferably one with tolerable temperatures and lots of hollers- where you can go more or less off grid. In those states, avoid any place where the black population exceeds about 10% or so.
As an ex-pat American, I was shocked at the anti-US attitude of many here. The socialist mindset and high prices (91 regular is $2.75 per litre) are drawbacks but the fly fishing is great.
New Zealand is like Kalifornia. Geologically and climatologically spectacular. Politically and sociologically it's retarded beyond all belief. The leftists have made the place virtually uninhabitable by anyone with the IQ of warm toast.
We tried to move there in the 80’s, but there were way too many restrictive hoops to jump through. The land is beautiful ranging from tropical beaches to alpine mountains and fjords. It’s a shame that liberals can ruin such a fantastic land.
You could almost predict the level of draconian totalitarian overreach of a country during the Coof by ... counting the number of women in government (seriously, check it out yourself).
NZ is unfortunately one of the worst (and Aus is not far behind).
NZ is still like Britain 'used' to be in the 50's, polite, neighbourly, free. Now, courtesy of the woke wimmin (voted in en bloc by the wimmin in the cities), it is on the fast-track to Hell.

Just a theory. You can take it or leave it.

ReplyDeleteA nice country...other than the abject government tyranny.

NZ: the countryside is spectacular, but their political landscape makes Califrutopian society seem sane and rational by contrast.

ReplyDeleteBeing trapped on an island is a bad idea, Alcatraz comes to mind.

No Second Amendment in any of those places.
ReplyDeleteThat tells you all you need to know about their governments.
