  1. Only 335 hp from a 428cid? I have a 214cid V6 that makes 300 hp, normally aspirated.

    1. Yes but your V6 probably has variable valve timing and a variable intake manifold so it can produce high torque at low rpm and high horsepower at high rpm. When valve timing and intake length are fixed as they were until the '90s the engine builders had to sacrifice top end horsepower for low speed drivability. Search for '413 max wedge cross ram' to see an engine so optimised for high rpm that the engine had difficulty idling at a stoplight with the transmission in drive. As intended, it was a monster at the drag strip.
