And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Fabulous. Dad worked in Brooklyn and would take sales clients to Lugar's to seal a deal. Quite the place. You could only buy it at the restaurant in those days and he'd sometimes bring home a bottle. God help you if you touched it!
Luger's is perhaps the place for one of the most outstanding meals in the entire United States of America. That is, if you like meat and potatoes kinda meals. One of the most interesting aspects of the place is that they do not take credit cards. It's cash or checks. (Maybe this had changed but not during the 30 or so years that I lived on the East Coast and was blessed to be able to visit this restaurant once in a while.
One of my buddies who grew up in Brooklyn and who knew the Lugar's owner family said that the sides of beef that are "aged" in the way the owners went, end up having 3/4 of the meat discarded so the meat that is left is melt-in-your-mouth.
Fabulous.

Your dad was a smart man.
DeleteI don’t know, but I was raised that if had to put steak sauce on a prime steak then that steak wasn’t prime. I’d like to try that on a burger though
ReplyDeleteI’m sure that’s expensive as heck too. Anyone ever see HP sauce anymore? I always preferred that over A 1

That should read: "...aged in the way that the owners want..."
DeleteIt is a sweat, tomato, horseradish sauce. I have used it on chicken. I have never had a need for steak sauce other than an Au Jus.
ReplyDeleteGood cut, properly cooked, you doan need no stinkin sauce
ReplyDeleteFortunately that is only your opinion and you and everyone else knows what they say about opinions…
DeleteI’ve only had it at the restaurant. Its a tad sweet but delicious and i just use it more for the steak fries.
ReplyDeleteWell done and pass the ketchup.
ReplyDeleteThe best steak sauce is Worcestershire sauce, and then only on the baked potato... I mean, really, a good steak needs no sauce....
ReplyDeleteI just ordered a bottle. Same day delivery, so I'll be able to try it on a variety of game day snacks. I'll report back tomorrow.
