And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
$.19 for an American made wooden yo-yo. Today the Duncan Imperial is $5.99 on Amazon for a plastic yoyo probably made by the CCP. Yoyo inflation, thanks Joe!
Back when I was in 1st grade in a West Miami school circa 1950, they were as popular as a smart phone is today. We had a Duncan "rep" visit the school to give a presentation. Cat in the cradle, walk the dog, round the world and other "moves". I had a couple of Duncans and along with an old sock full of marbles my happy world was complete.
Brings back real FUN memories. I started with CHEERIO brand and then DUNCAN reps started coming around and hosting contests at local stores. We all switched to Duncan. I have framed on my office wall right now, most of my yo yo awards sewn on a T shirt the same size that I wore back in the early 50's. My grand children and other kids who come in are enthralled, especially when I pull out my yo yo and do a few tricks----NOT a butterfly, that would be cheating. Those were not around then. I now have one with a bushing and the thing will spin forever!
YES INDEED! I bought one of those as a kid in the early 60s. They were all the rage.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while since I was a kid; can the current crop of children put down their phones long enough to even try a yo-yo?
ReplyDeleteI had two, an Imperial and a Butterfly. Good times for an eight year old.

ReplyDeleteHad a couple including the Butterfly. Guys would be proud of the rims worn smooth from walkin' the dog on the sidewalk.

How about around the world? The butterflies made that move alot easier.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite was the Butterfly. It was balanced better. I wore out a lot of strings with my red and yellow butterfly.
ReplyDeleteClick-clacks followed the yo-yo craze.
