  5. Guys, what is this "Balto" business? That's Togo, who led over the worst section of the trail during the "mercy run". Balto (bred by the same man holding Togo in the photo) was the lead dog on the last relay into Nome. Togo is easy to look up, and our host even gave you his name.

  6. Leonhard Seppala had Balto castrated because he saw the dog as inferior., Balto is only famous because he was the lead dog for the final leg of the trip. Togo was the lead dog for over 274 miles. balto only led the final 53 mile leg. Togo is actually stuffed and his remains are in the Iditarod Museum.
