  2. It looks like a badly done photoshop job to be honest. The word CRUSTY is not level but is closer to the top on the left and the 8 isn't centered.

    1. You're talking about a tank. A tank in the field in 1917 or 1918 on which some soldiers painted a name. Likely as not, it was done freehand by amateurs. I wouldn't expect anything less than a bit cockeyed and off center.

  4. I believe that the takers used those wooden beams to help them clear deep muddy bogs while in the field.

  5. 'Crusty' was damaged at 'Cambrai' in 1917. The crew, all wounded jumped into a German trench, and the officer chased the few |Germans with his pistol, to allow his men to run over no mans land. He was captured, and spent war as POW. This according to his grandson.
