F86 and Mig15. Amazingly similar designs.

    1. Yes, the out-and-out communist Cripps (and the socialist government cheerfully went along with him) did OK the sale, but ... you might like to check who in (the wholly owned and run subsidiary of the US) NATO approved and 'paid' for them, because it was sure-as-sh*t wasn't Russia.

      But just like who actually funded the German build-up prior to (and even in the beginning of) WW2 (not to mention where he got most of his eugenic ideas from - that would be California if you've forgotten) is now entirely memory-holed, 'that' is something 'you' can never admit. Right?

  3. Their German scientists and ours came up with the swept back wings at about the same time....technology the Germans already had at the end of WWII....

  6. Cutting edge technology for the day. And Form follows Function in nearly every design.

    It is amazing how often the form of one design is so very similar to that of another machine designed for the same task. Not only in fighters, either.

  10. Both have their origins with Kurt Tank's Focke-Wulf Ta 183.
    More so with the Mig as the Soviets capture a lot of the engineers
    that where in on the design.

  11. It helped us when we had a MiG that defected and picked up parts of planes shot down over Korea. It helped the Communists when they recovered an F-86 that crash landed on a sand island at low tide.

    The MiG 15 didn't have hydraulically boosted controls so at high speeds its maneuverability dropped off as the pilot had to overcome air loads by brute force. Also at high speeds the nose moved around making gunnery more challenging.

  12. The MiG also lacked the "flying tail" the US fighters had at that point. Also needed not one but two wing fences due to a poor wing design.
