The Odd Couple

  1. I once witnessed a coyote and badger tangle up. The coyote did not win.

  2. Badgers and coyotes are known to hunt together. I was lucky enough to see this in action. Badger will start digging up a rodent den and the coyote cleans up any rodent that tries to escape from side tunnels. Not that unusual to see them traveling together.

  4. What is really interesting here is that the coyote is exhibiting play behavior, communicating to a different species. "C'mon, c'mon, it's over here!"

    1. Want to make friends with a dog? Slap your forearms on the ground with your butt in the air. You have just told him you want to play.

  7. I saw them working together once in the desert. Following each other through the brush in broad daylight. It turns out they often form an alliance. Fast prey gets caught by the coyote and anything escaping down a hole the badger gets.
