And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

1st Infantry Regiment of the French Republican Guard.
The flag we planted on the moon has most likely turned all white by uv light and atmosphere, so it actually looks like France was the first country to land on the moon
True, but in the day, his empire was a wee bit larger than that, wasn't it? Like pretty much everything from Gibraltar to Russia, and Denmark to Sicily?
Any time I see "French" and "army" in the same sentence, it reminds me of the joke:

DeleteSaw some article some time back that mentioned that current English was a mix of Old English and influences from the Norman invasion ~10th Century.
