And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
The Peaveys right here in my little North Maine town were the originators of "The Cantdog" which later became the "Peavey". Peavey descendants are still in the hand tool business 100 miles south of here making handles for all kinds of implements from White Ash logs. An interesting note is that nearly of the old anvils in the logging areas here and I assume in other places, are peppered on the sides with divots where blacksmiths set the picks on the Peavey. The Peavey family that stayed here ran an Ice business up until the 60s using an innovative motorized ice saw of their own design
In Michigan, we call the feller's axe the Michigan axe. I have a couple of them.
ReplyDelete"Peavy" was the inventor, the tool combined two existing implements, IIRC
