And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Cornel Wilde and Teresa Wright in Lew Landers’ CALIFORNIA CONQUEST, released 70 years ago (1952)
When you think about it, having an unheard of movie made before I was born available on the TV in the living room or this laptop or even my phone is an amazing thing! And available from more than one source at that! This is the Golden Age...
Looks like a Hollyweirded mish-mash of a Trapdoor Springfield. A saddle ring but not the correct stock for the carbine. Appears to have the rifle sling swivel on the front of the trigger guard and another on the side of the stock. No identifiable rear sight and an after-market front barrel band that looks aluminum. A single shot rifle. Probably made semi-full auto by filing the sear.
They used a rock. "See now, what you can accomplish with a little time, if you set your mind to it?" Later... "Now. Now, don't take but just a hair on that trigger now, boy. You hear me?" "BLAM!" -An episode of Gunsmoke from my grey matter archive.
guessing the guy was about 6'6" and the gal 5'8" ? Wrong rifle for the era though.
ReplyDeleteSnider? looks cut down.
DeleteAny movie with Alfonso Bedoya can't be bad. And some are downright great (ie: The Big Country).
ReplyDeleteP.S. Cornel Wilde was 6'1". Teresa Wright was 5'3". IMDb is your friend.
Looking at the bright side, you nailed the height differential.
Hmmm ... Available to rent on Amazon Prime. Might be worth the $3.

Well, now I would like to know the make and model of the rifle . . . .
