And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Completely untrue if you are a skilled pilot. The first time Delmar took it up he was amazed at how controllable it actually was - even when inverted. He has flown it at air shows all over the world for many years.
I read once where either Mitchell or Doolittle committed to flying it without seeing it. Since they committed and didn't want to go back on their word, they/one of them flew it and swore he'd never do that again. The builder/designer called him some names, questioned his manhood and took the plane up himself. He promptly crashed it and died.
if the engines big enough you can fly a circus tent full of oranges

ReplyDeleteMany moons ago I wrote a story featuring this honey of a plane, Miss Gee Bee. Also featured was Billy Mitchell.
