And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

1962. Cosmonauts Yuri Gagarin (1934-1968) and Gherman Titov (1935-2000) with Soviet artistic gymnast Larissa Latynina (b.1934).
Larisa Semyonovna Latynina is a former Soviet artistic gymnast. Between 1956 and 1964 she won 14 individual Olympic medals and four team medals.
During the cold war ComBloc gymnasts won an inordinate number of medals....same for figure skating. The main reason was the inherent corruptibility of "sports judging". Virtually EVERY ComBloc country had judges on the panels and they ALL would ALWAYS score communist athletes higher then western athletes...even when it was obvious corruption. Every judged medal won by the USSR and East Germany should have an Asterisk beside it in the history books.
