Get it from the Spice House in Chicago. You'll have to ask for Steakhouse Smoke Seasoning, they can't call it Chicago Steak anymore, but their stuff is the original Grandma Ruth Penzey mixture. The one here is a knockoff of the now 50+ year old standard Old World 3rd St recipe- made first in Milwaukee!
Hint: don't buy it from Penzey Spices. Yeah, same stuff, but Bill's a twit.

ReplyDeleteI tried Chicago steak seasoning and didn't like it as well as I liked the Montreal steak seasoning.
ReplyDeleteDry brine with Kosher salt overnight uncovered in refrigerator, 500 degree cast iron pan for 2 min each side. That's all I need.
ReplyDeleteI don't touch anything related to Chicago (or New York + others)
ReplyDeleteKetchup is all you need on a steak.
