    1. I worked in a shipyard. Nice old man, worked as a chipper - he grind off excess material. No hearing protection.

  5. Riveted construction is actually more resistant to failure that welded construction.

    If a rivet fails, the structure deforms slightly and the load is taken up by adjacent rivets.

    In a welded structure, if a weld fails, the stresses are concentrated at the end of the crack and the crack continues to propagate.
