  1. Russia has two. Greece and China have four each.

Apparently spares are difficult, and replacement engines among other spares contributed to Russia scrapping the other five they once had.

China may be building their own engines and parts, as they built half of the four in their fleet.

"Pomornik" is the NATO name and the one pictured is the "Evgeniy Kocheshkov," one of the two Russian Navy's remaining examples. It is over 30 years old.

    1. Things are looking up though, since high-spec Russian military jet engines are manufactured in eastern Ukraine.....

    2. Not for some time now. All Russian engines are home made.

"Motor Sich engines power an estimated 80% of Russian-built helicopters, including:

      Mil Mi-2
      Mil Mi-8/17 and variants
Mil Mi-24 (in the Hind F configuration)

There are many others, but these are the critical ones."

  2. I wish the Soviets got further along on the 'Caspian Sea Monster' wing-in-ground-effect aircraft. The US could use a few and would have been able to piggy-back on their development post-USSR.
