We got the contract to design, test and build the "Drag Chute" for Endeavour and the retrofit's for the others!!! I worked in the Rigging Dept. and we did all the rigging ad packing of the chutes for test and delivery!!!

    2. It's not unusual to dip into the sustainment supply chain to build aircraft especially at the end of a production run. Most military aircraft built for the government come with government furnished equipment overhauled engines becasue there are more engines in the logistic world than there are in production and it's a lot cheaper that way.

  2. Is that actual gold we're looking at?

If so, what was its purpose?

  3. It might be Kapton.

Gold is good at blocking radiation and can be worked into a very thin sheet.

  4. Gold is also an excellent conductor of heat. I don't know if that might have been a consideration here.
