And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
A friend at church married a young woman who had immigrated from Russia after the Soviet collapse in '91. They return now and again to visit her uncle who lives in Chita, on his small farm, roughly 200 miles from Baikal Lake. It's a 2 day train ride from Moscow to Chita. The uncle pines for 'the good ol days' of the Soviets when there was huge collective farms, light industry, and commerce in the area - instead of tourists. *spit
