And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? When properly configured, a canard can be measurably more efficient. A canard provides positive lift whereas a conventional empennage configuration typically provides a down force which increases control. In a conventional design, the main wings must overcome both the weight of the aircraft and the additional down force from the empennage. The Rutan design took advantage of this. The trade-off is more control vs higher efficiency.
This was obviously the Rutan Vari-Eze version.
