And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Old article from 30-40+ years ago in American Rifleman told about a guy getting charged by a Cape. Shot him with a .458 dead center between the eyes right at the base of the horn plate in it's skull. Slowed him down long enough for his backup to quarter him with two shots from a .510 Rigby. He dropped about 20 feet from him. Their skull is something on the order of about 4-5 inches thick right where he shot him. It didn't penetrate. BAD A$$ Buffalo...
They have a huge callous below the neck in front. Tough to penetrate as well. Cape Buffs are simply hard to kill. Several guides have said they are the most dangerous game.
The failures of the 458 Win cartridge are well documented. Jeff Cooper among others condemned it strongly. Not enough case capacity, compressed powder loading, partial ignition of the powder lump, velocities in the 1500 fps range.
That's a croc. He'll see you after while.

Col. Coopers custom dangerous game rifle "Baby" is chambered in .460 G&A Special. I think they retired that rifle after he died.
