And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
This was back when money was real. A $2,000 cash prize was something to work for. Nowadays I know people who carry that much around and think nothing of it.
Okay. That answers my question. Yesterday morning my bride and I were watching a '57 episode of Highway Patrol. When the bad guys stole $1000 she said "That doesn't hardly seem worth it" and I replied "Adjusted for inflation that $1000 would probably be worth about ten grand today". Sounds like I might have been pretty close.
