Hard, dangerous work. One might think such men would be hard charging brutes. I have read the personal writings of some of these men. It is surprising how kind and civil, even humble these men were.
Except for the bar fights, we would not want to try it with one of them today, sure they were kind and humble but just lay your hand on the lady and see what happened.
There is an open air logging museum just north of Chiloquin Oregon, adjacent to Collier State Park. It's well worth a stop if you're ever in the area. Organized in historical eras, horse, steam, early diesel, and modern. My overall impression is just how brutally hard the work was to move that timber and iron.
Real.
